North is at the top · each petal is one of the 16 Vastu zones
In Vastu Shastra the North-East is called Ishanya, the corner of Ishan (Shiva). It is a water-element zone that governs the mind, clarity, wisdom and spirituality, and it receives the first light of the morning Sun.
That is why a temple here brings clarity and peace, while the same temple in a fire, disposal or depression zone can bring restlessness instead.
A quick reference. Use the checker above for the impact and remedies of your exact zone.
The North-East (Ishanya) is the ideal zone for a pooja room. It is the zone of the divine and brings clarity and peace. North, North-North-East, East-North-East and East are also good.
Face East or North while praying.
Never place a temple in the South-South-West, the zone of disposal. South-East, South-South-East, South, South-West and West-North-West are also not suitable. Avoid a temple under a staircase, in a bedroom or sharing a wall with a toilet.
The South-West is the zone of ancestors. It suits ancestors' photos, but not deities, so it is not recommended for a temple.
Avoid very large idols at home — roughly above 9 inches. Keep them slightly above floor level and not touching the wall.
