How to use Vastu Software, step by step

Quick answer

Draw or import your floor plan, set the north direction, let the software find the Brahma Bindu, choose a zone grid, read what falls in each zone, add remedies and export the report. A full report takes about 45 minutes once you know the steps.

Before you start

You need three things:

  • The floor plan — a drawing, a builder’s brochure image, or rough measurements of each room.
  • The north direction — from a compass reading taken at the centre of the house, away from metal objects. A phone compass is fine for a first check; take three readings and use the average.
  • Vastu Software installed on your Windows or Mac computer and your account signed in.

Step 1 — Create a project

Start a new project for the client or the property. Projects keep the plan, the analysis and the report together, so you can come back to them later.

Step 2 — Draw or import the floor plan

You have two options:

  1. Draw it: draw walls and rooms to scale with snap-to-grid, then add doors, windows and room labels.
  2. Import it: upload the plan as an image (JPG or PNG), set the scale using one known measurement, and trace over it.

Mark the important parts — main entrance, kitchen, toilets, bedrooms, pooja room and staircase — because the analysis lists every room by zone. More about floor plan drawing.

Step 3 — Set north

Enter the compass reading. Everything that follows depends on it, so double-check this step: if north is off by 20°, rooms can move into a different zone.

Step 4 — Find the centre (Brahma Bindu)

The software calculates the Brahma Bindu automatically — for square, rectangular and irregular plans. Check that the outline you used is the one you want to analyse (the house, not the whole plot). Curious how it works? See how to put a Vastu grid on a floor plan.

Step 5 — Choose a zone grid and read it

Choose 8, 16, 32 or 64 zones. Start with 16 zones — it is the most common system for homes. The software overlays the grid and lists each room with its zone and effect, plus a zone-strength bar chart and any missing or extended corners.

New to zones? Our 16 zones guide explains what each one stands for.

Step 6 — Go deeper (optional)

Depending on the consultation and your plan, you can add more layers:

  • 45 Devtas — place the Vastu Purusha Mandala and see which room sits on which Devta.
  • Shakti Chakra — read the 16 or 32 directions precisely from the centre.
  • 64 / 81 Pada Vinyas — for plots, temples and the Brahmasthan.
  • Panch Tatva, Tridosha and Triguna — element and balance views.
  • Astro-Vastu — enter birth details to link the D1 chart and Mahadasha to the zones.
  • Google Earth — check the plot shape, roads and surroundings.

Step 7 — Add remedies

Each dosha links to suitable remedies — placement changes, colours, metals, plants, yantras and mantras. Add the ones you recommend to the report with one click, or save your own remedies to reuse.

Step 8 — Generate and send the report

Generate the full report: gridded maps, zone-strength charts, the dosha list, remedies and a colour chart. Export it as an editable Word file (or PDF), add your logo, notes and signature, and send it to your client.

Once you know the steps, a full report takes about 45 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need CAD skills?

No. You can draw rooms with simple tools or trace over an image of your plan.

What if my north reading is wrong?

The whole analysis shifts with it, so take three compass readings from the centre of the house, away from metal, and use the average.

Which zone grid should I start with?

Start with 16 zones. Use 32 or 64 zones only when you need finer detail, for example for entrances.
