What Medical Vastu means
Medical Vastu (sometimes called health Vastu) is the part of Vastu that looks at how the placement of rooms, activities and objects in each zone is traditionally linked to wellbeing — energy, sleep, stress and recovery. It uses the same tools as regular Vastu: the zones, the five elements and the Vastu Purusha Mandala, read with a focus on the people living in the space.
The basic idea
In Vastu, the Vastu Purusha lies across the plan with his head in the North-East and feet in the South-West, so each part of the house is traditionally linked to a part of the body and to an element. When a zone is blocked, cluttered or holds the wrong activity — for example a toilet where the plan should stay light — Medical Vastu suggests that the people who use that space may feel less supported.
Consultants also look at Tridosha (Vata, Pitta and Kapha — the three body types of Ayurveda) and Triguna (Sattva, Rajas and Tamas) balance across the plan.
Zones most often discussed
In 16-zone Vastu, a few zones come up again and again in health-focused consultations. (See the 16 zones guide for all of them.)
| Zone | Traditionally linked to | Common concern |
|---|---|---|
| NNE | Health, healing and immunity | A toilet, store room or clutter in this zone |
| NE | Clarity of mind | Heavy furniture, kitchen or toilet in the North-East |
| SE | Fire, digestion and vitality | Water elements or a toilet in the fire zone |
| SW | Stability and rest | A toilet or cut corner in the South-West |
| WNW | Letting go, detox | Usually a good zone for toilets — blocking it is a concern |
| Centre | Overall balance (Brahmasthan) | Pillars, toilets or staircases at the centre |
What a consultant usually checks
- Bedroom of the person concerned — which zone it is in, and the sleeping direction. Check your bedroom with our free bedroom checker.
- Toilets — toilets in the North-East, North-North-East or South-West are treated as major doshas. Try the free toilet checker.
- Kitchen — whether fire (the stove) and water (the sink) are placed in suitable zones.
- The centre — whether the Brahmasthan is open and light.
- Clutter and heaviness — heavy storage in light zones, or empty, cut corners in the South-West.
Typical remedies
Medical Vastu remedies are usually simple and reversible:
- Moving a bed, desk or heavy cupboard to a more suitable zone.
- Clearing clutter from the North-East and North-North-East.
- Using colours and elements that suit each zone.
- Keeping toilet doors closed and the toilet clean and dry.
- Traditional remedies such as specific plants, metals or yantras, as advised by a consultant.
Medical Vastu in CA Vastu Software
In CA Vastu Software, Medical Vastu shows a body-zone overlay on the plan and notes for the bedrooms of elderly or unwell family members, so the consultant can discuss placements with the client. It is presented as traditional guidance, never as medical advice, and is part of the Pro – 1 Year Plan.
